Woburn Abbey and Safari Park

Background:

A to B Communications were originally engaged in 2009 to design a campus wide IT fibre and copper infrastructure for this large a prodigious estate.

The Opportunity:

There was no single infrastructure for the organisation. They were running a few completely separate systems around the vast estate. There was no centralised IT department. Their vision was to create a unified network across the site, originally utilising 2 server rooms and over 30 satellite locations.

The Solution:

In coordination with Woburn’s estates team and their IT and civils contractors we designed and installed a site wide fibre optic backbone, utilising single and multimode cable. Over 7km of cable was initially installed in challenging conditions under some interesting H&S conditions. As well as the Park and Abbey being open to the public during parts of the install it is the only job we’ve completed where our engineers were watched over by a Safari Park employee with a rifle in case of Rhinoceros attack! Following the success of this project the Bedford Estates have continued to use A to B Communications as their sole structured cabling installer and we now look after Woburn Golf Club and Bedford Estates London offices as well.

A to B Communications have been a preferred supplier to the Bedford Estates for more than six years during which time they have provided a high-quality, professional fibre and copper cabling service. They have become a trusted partner and I hope to be working with them for many more years to come
